Linda Leah - Yoga, Movement & Meditation

Linda recently moved into the area and has joined the team as a yoga and movement teacher at the Padma Centre this year. She is passionate about teaching yoga and expressive movement because she believes in the benefits for body, mind and spirit. Movement is life ... all nature moves ... and deeper than movement is stillness ... that stillness and peace from which all life unfolds.

Linda's journey has been one from movement to stillness. She has spent over 30 years studying and teaching dance and movement education, first in the

USA where she completed her MA in dance in the '70's. Next in Melbourne, where she taught movement and dance education at IECD, subsequently Melbourne University. During this time, Linda also became a Certified Movement Analyst (Laban Institute of Movement Studies, New York). This enables her to understand and teach about the meaning of individual movement styles, as well as providing an excellent tool for private consultation. Linda is also interested in different forms of communal dance, both world music and the rich diversity of movement styles which becomes clarified through movement analysis.

Rudolph Laban first initiated the concept of a 'Movement Choir', a community activity for people who love moving to music together. With isolation becoming an increasing issue in our society, moving together, like singing together, is an important opportunity to enjoy communicating non-verbally with others.

Linda met her Yoga Guru, Shanti Gowans, and started her journey into stillness in the late '80's. The core of ShantiYoga, The Yoga of Peace, is realising the stillness within through deep mind and body centering. ShantiYoga integrates the depth of the Indian tradition in Yoga with the relevance of these wisdom practices to our culture today. She has been teaching the 'Yoga of Peace' for the past 10 years. Her classes incorporate deep breathing, relaxation, body alignment, personal feedback and a wide range of postures to increase health. Everyone is encouraged to work at their own appropriate level and no past experience is needed.

In the 'Yoga of Peace' everyone is encouraged to 'Slow down, Expand your heart, Still your mind, Nourish your body and honour your spirit'.
